About the Film
You have received brief snapshots of some of the things that occurred during the initial integration process of the U.S. school systems through the lives of notable students involved (e.g., Linda Carol Brown, the Little Rock Nine, and Ruby Bridges). However, for the masses of students involved in this process, there have been very few in-depth, firsthand accounts of what they went through mentally, emotionally, and physically in the name of social change. Centered around the narratives of brave, former students of Newberry, SC schools, the documentary Child POWs: Stories of Students on the Frontline of the Initial School Integration will take you on a profound journey to celebrate the students from Newberry, SC as they present their first-hand accounts of what they endured and sacrificed during the initial stages of school integration. Until now their stories, sacrifices and contributions to the civil rights movement have been only personal recollections and never a part of history.

Witness the emotions the heroic students experience, both good and bad, as they step back in time and relive the moments that happened many, many years ago when they took part in this process. Learn how telling their intertwined stories supplied some measure of therapy for them as they relive the joy and pain of each moment. Celebrate the amazing stories of triumph as they shed some of the pain inflicted on them while forging a path for generations to come.

This collection of stories will preserve an important part of history for the ages and give a platform for these heroes to tell their stories, be heard and possibly receive a measure of much needed relief. Learn more about the truths of integration by viewing this historical event through the eyes of those who lived through it as you connect the dots surrounding the importance of current events and their global impact. Delve into the details of their process as they spur you to be more interested in and understanding of the events that shape our world.
